Christians Against Poverty (CAP)

What we do

CAP is a national debt counselling charity with a network of debt centres based in local churches, such as PCF. CAP offers hope and a solution to people in debt through its top quality, in-depth service.

PCF has partnered with CAP to offer debt counselling in our community. The service we offer at the Poole Debt Centre is completely free. We can help you with:

CAP can provide you with free, confidential, personal and in-depth help for dealing with debt.

Money advice and management

A free, short course that makes managing your money simple.

CAP life skills

This friendly group is great for discovering the life skills you need to survive on a low income.

About our CAP Debt Centre

The Poole CAP Debt Centre is run by Ruth Hobbs who will visit you in your home, along with a CAP volunteer. She will introduce the service to you and ask you about your income, bills and debts so that the CAP Caseworkers can create a realistic budget for you.

If you’re struggling with debt, please call the free, confidential helpline on 0800 328 0006.

Meet our CAP Centre Manager

Ruth Hobbs

Ruth is married to Clive and they have three married children and three grandchildren (to date). Over the years, Ruth has worked as a nurse and a college lecturer and has been involved in various types of church work. When the opportunity arose to manage the CAP Centre in Poole, the verse in James 2 which ends with “…I will show you my faith by my deeds.” convinced Ruth that working for CAP was for her. CAP is unashamedly Christian and telling clients the Good News about Jesus is part of the job.
